Spectra by Comcast Spectacor teamed with the St. Charles County community to collect nearly 2,000 personal care items, 100 bags of food and over 800 coats and other winter accessories to be distributed at the upcoming Helping Hands for the Holidays charity event hosted at the St. Charles Convention Center this coming Thursday, December 17th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Spectra reports community support for the event to be at an all-time high in Helping Hands for the Holidays' eight-year history.
Helping Hands for the Holidays is an annual charity event free to attend for in-need members of the community that includes a holiday dinner buffet, carolers, photos with Santa, children's activity area, personal care packets, winter clothing giveaway, flu shots, children's eye screenings, and more.
"We are both humbled and elated by the community's support of and contributions to our Helping Hands for the Holidays charity event," said Spectra's Shura Garnett, Regional Vice President and General Manager at the St. Charles Convention Center.
The City of St. Charles, World Wide Technology, Enterprise Fleet Management, First Capitol Lions Club, Sunrise Rotary Club, Girl Scout Troop 765, and the Daisy Girl Scout Troop from Castlio Elementary arranged personal care items, food, and/or winter clothing drives to contribute to Helping Hands. Of the seven organizations, six were first-time contributors to the event. Offers to volunteer are also at an all-time high with a 50% increase over the previous year.
"Helping Hands for the Holidays wouldn't be what it is today without the returning support of community organizations," said Spectra's Angie Teel, Director of Event Experiences at the St. Charles Convention Center. "We are equally grateful to the new and returning organizations that come together to create a great evening and resource for the underserved of our community."
This year, Mercy returned in a big way sponsoring photos with Santa, providing flu shots, and sharing information on the coverage assistance program. Other partners that will be present at the event include: The Child Center, Family Advocacy & Community Training (FACT), Gateway EITC Community Coalition, Habitat for Humanity - St. Charles, North East Community Action Corp (NECAC), Oasis Food Pantry, Planned Parenthood, Preferred Family Healthcare, St. Charles Area Transit (SCAT), St. Charles City County Library Foundation, St. Charles County Public Health, St. Charles Lions Club, St. Louis Life, St. Patrick Center, The Sparrow's Nest Maternity Home, and Youth in Need.
Registration and proof of need are not required to attend Helping Hands for the Holidays. Six pick-up and drop-off points, provided by St. Charles Area Transit (SCAT) and St. Louis Life are available to those in need of transportation.
