Owners Mike and Karen Koehneman started Sunflower Hill Farm in 2014 as a small, hobby farm that was originally intended as a place for Karen to expand her green thumb. The stunning location soon caught the eye of brides-to-be and that attention helped grow the Koehneman’s “hobby farm” into an estate featuring a large produce garden, greenhouse, and a premier event and wedding venue.
The Farm provides the surrounding community and the metro area with organic produce as well as a community supported agriculture program, it’s also home to some of the fanciest free-range fowl around. Along with their official farm business, Sunflower Hill has become a premiere event venue featuring a large farmhouse and a quarry bonfire area that is available to rent for weddings, private parties, weekend getaways, retreats, and even corporate events. You’ll find luxury amenities including a catering prep kitchen, bridal and groom suites, outdoor ceremony space, picturesque landscapes for photography, a beautiful wine cellar for small receptions and photos, and a modern barn-style event center with indoor/outdoor seating.
If you’re not a local restaurant looking for the freshest organic produce or a couple looking for a swoon worthy location, Sunflower Hill Farm also offers a Refarming Academy to learn small-scale organic farming techniques, a market, and the Produce Café that allows them to connect with the community. The Café has a patio that looks out over the farm, if you’re lucky, you may even have a visit from one, or even a few of the resident chickens. The Café menu changes regularly and features what’s in season at the Farm. After you’ve enjoyed the view, take a little time to visit the market – pick up farm fresh eggs, homemade goods, bakery treats, and a latte to go.
