The buzz of tattoo machines fills the air as people shop and mingle amongst a plethora of tattoo artists and artisans throughout the Grand Hall at the Foundry Art Centre for the second annual Tattoo Arts & Crafts Fair. From August 22-24, artist booths with fine art, live demonstrations, contests, and of course, tattoos will be set up for visitors to explore the intersection of tattoos and art.

The Foundry Art Centre is teaming up with Oasis Studio and Gallery for this tattoo festival in St. Charles. With over 3,000 visitors last year, the event has expanded to three days in 2025, bringing more tattoos, demos, and opportunities to the table. “We invite visitors to learn more about tattoos as an art medium at a family-friendly, art-focused event,” Jessica Mannisi, Foundry Director of Exhibitions, said. “Tattoos can be misunderstood, but tattooing has a very rich history going back several millennia. It is indeed an art form, just with a living canvas.”

Walk around the decorated booths (many with their own colorful banners) and shop for new artwork such as ceramics, metalwork, glass, and paintings, or get some new ink of your own. “Whether someone is looking to get their first tattoo or to add to their collection, it’s a great opportunity to check out a wide range of artists who specializes in different styles,” said Mannisi.

Find many different styles at the Tattoo Arts & Crafts Fair in Saint Charles. From traditional to realism and whimsical folklore-inspired tats, it’s not hard to find something for everyone. As you walk around, it’s easy to start a list of tattoos you want and artists to follow on social media (trust me, as someone who doesn’t have any tattoos, I was very close to leaving with one last year, they’re just that good!). Tattoo artists from as far away as Portland, Oregon, are attending, so visitors can discover new tattoo artists and get work from artists that are normally located too far away. “We have great artists that exemplify the theme of the show,” Ahmed Eldarrat, Owner of Oasis Studio and Gallery and Tattoo Arts & Crafts Fair Promoter, said. “We’re expanding this year with more artists and more categories in the tattoo contest to take it to the next level.”

Several tattoo contests will be happening throughout the event. Artists can sign up for the Tattoo of the Day for each day of the festival. On the last day, awards for Best Booth, Best Banner, Best Large Color, Small Color, Large Black & Grey, Small Black & Grey, Back Piece, Sleeve, Traditional, and Portrait will be given to participating artists. Most, if not all, of the tattoos submitted must be started and completed during the festival. “We’re working with tattoo artist, Josh Martin, out of Kansas City, to make handmade mugs for category winners. His ceramics are incredible,” said Mannisi. “Plaques made by Ahmed Eldarrat will also be awarded with the mugs.”

Visitors and artists alike find that the Tattoo Arts & Crafts Fair creates a fun atmosphere where it feels like you’re hanging out with your friends all weekend. Tattoo artists are happy to answer questions and help visitors navigate the world of tattoos. “From a tattoo artist’s perspective, the Tattoo Arts & Crafts Fair makes me feel more connected to the local tattoo community,” Eldarrat said. “I work out of a private studio, so it gives me the opportunity to learn more about up and coming tattoo artists and chat with great artists, creators, and collectors that I otherwise wouldn’t have a chance to do.”
