I love to have a candle for every season and occasion. In fact, I have two baskets full of candles at my apartment. Despite my abundant collection, I’ve never made my own candle before, so I was very excited to try The Candle Fusion Studio. Every time I walked by their storefront, I’d get a whiff of fresh, heavenly scents that would nearly stop me in my tracks. Joined by my colleagues, Erin and Mary, I finally ventured into The Candle Fusion Studio, eager to craft the perfect, uniquely personalized candle that I couldn’t find anywhere else.

Upon entering the vibrant studio at 104 South Main Street, we were met with an enthusiastic greeting from a staff member ready to guide us through the magic of candle making. She handed us clipboards equipped with forms, encouraging us to take notes of different scents as we went. With baskets in hand for our favorite finds, we walked to the scent wall to begin the search for the perfect combination.

While there’s an option to make a room spray, body mist, bath salts, and wax tarts, we were all set on making candles. It was time for our final decision: picking out a vessel for our candles. There were a variety of options – from sleek glass and boldly colored opaque jars to gorgeous multi-toned ceramics – it was difficult to choose! I wanted a container that not only complemented my fresh-smelling concoction but also doubled as a stylish plant pot post-candle life. With this in mind, I chose a blue and white ceramic jar that reminded me of the beach. Erin, with a vision of a cozy coffee shop in mind, chose a two-toned ceramic jar in warm browns, while Mary chose an eclectic orange jar to stand out in her home.

Navigating the wall that boasted an impressive variety of over 100 options, we embarked on a fragrant journey. To get a good whiff, or the perfect sniff if you will, you’re supposed to swirl the bottles in a circle a few inches from your nose. I smelled everything from the familiar like pine and vanilla, to unique scents like flannel and Ginger Ale (which was remarkably spot on)! With this many options, it was hard to decide what combination to make. Luckily there’s space on the form to take note of unique combinations, so I jotted down the three standouts that spoke to me.

After debating between wintery pine, fresh and clean, or a rejuvenating fruity fragrance, I settled on the choice of the fresh and clean. The blend of white tea, rain, agave, and bergamot is a perfect companion of the spring cleaning that is in my future. Meanwhile, Erin opted for a warm combination of vanilla, brown sugar, and coffee, creating an aroma reminiscent of a cozy coffee shop. Mary, on the other hand, chose a blend of old books, grapefruit, and mint leaf, crafting a one-of-a-kind sweet earthy scent that can’t be found in stores. We put the bottles of the corresponding oils into our baskets and picked seats at the candle bar, eager to transform these fragrant oils into our own candles.

Returning to the candle bar with our chosen jars, we were excited to make our creations as a staff member filled them with hot soy wax. With jiggers in hand, we were tasked with concocting the perfect blend of our chosen scents. I only added a few drops at a time because it’s easier to add than to take away. I eventually filled it to the desired level creating my own signature fragrance. Next, I poured the mixture of the oils into the hot wax, stirring for 45 seconds to ensure even distribution, right down to the bottom of the jar. The final step: creating a name and a label for our candles. The Candle Fusion Studio provided color pencils to spark creativity. As an homage to the scents I used, I named my candle “white tea on a rainy day”. Erin drew a steaming hot cup of coffee on her label and Mary drew books on her label.

After a leisurely lunch on Main Street and a little window shopping we returned to pick-up our custom creations. We had a fun and unique experience at The Candle Fusion Studio creating our signature candles. Now, every time I light my candle it creates the fresh, cozy atmosphere that I had envisioned.
